CityWest Homes will improve their service by investing in people. That’s the promise made by the housing provider which manages over 21,000 properties on behalf of Westminster City Council. CityWest Homes is supporting 50% of their staff through a CIH qualification, as part of their commitment to a professional service.
At a recent ceremony, nine members of staff were commended for completing a CIH Certificate in Housing level 3. The course is a big commitment, taking around nine months to complete. The main outcome is to give students the confidence and expertise to carry out their day to day jobs.
Marc Wolman, business transformation director, presented certificates at the ceremony. He said: “Congratulations to our graduates. They have worked extremely hard, carrying out their studies alongside their jobs. I feel that housing is an amazing challenge and at the core of it is the time we spend engaging with residents. Our graduates, who constantly work to provide a top service, all show true passion for what they do.
“I’m dedicated to growth and development. As a people focused business, the development of our teams through CIH training is crucial. I’m thrilled to see that we’re supporting half our people through training and look forward to seeing how they use it to benefit residents, the organisation and the wider community we serve.”
This qualification provides a broader knowledge of key areas in housing. It is comparable to an A-level or NVQ level 3 and includes three key areas: Delivery of affordable housing services, equality and diversity and professional practice skills.
One of the graduates, Sarah McMahon, is an improvements manager at CityWest Homes. She manages the handyperson team, who provide a range of communal repairs across the estates at no charge to residents. Sarah said: “I’m really proud to have completed the course – and I’m already moving on to level 4. It’s been hard work, but worth it. Not only does it help me in my day to day role, but it has opened my eyes to some of the other issues deeply imbedded in housing today. Going forward, I’m looking at ways to use my knowledge in my role.”
