CityWest Homes were rewarded for their work in the community on 9 July, after winning ‘Best Community Initiative’ at the National Federation of ALMOs (arms length management organisation) (NFA) seventh annual awards evening.
The eight award categories had over 115 submissions from 37 different ALMOs from across the country. CityWest Homes innovative ‘365plan’ impressed the judges with its aim for staff to commit at least one volunteering day, in order for the business to give the local community a whole years worth of voluntary service.
In order to deliver the 365plan the business has over 200 opportunities for staff to help the local community. This includes mentoring residents who are unemployed to homework clubs for young people.
Another of these opportunities is ‘leap into action’ days. These days see a number of employees getting involved in a local project to spruce up an area. This may include cleaning, painting, gardening and anything else to make a difference to the local area.
Darren Levy, interim chief executive for CityWest Homes said: “This award recognises that it is possible to support the local community whilst delivering leading housing services.
“Since their inception in 2011 we have delivered over 50 leaps which has given over 750 volunteering days to the community.”
Sue Roberts MBE, Chair of the NFA said: “The awards are about sharing best practice and recognising real achievement from our staff and residents and, I for one, enjoyed celebrating their achievements as ALMOs continue to lead the way in delivering housing services.”
CityWest Homes were also finalists in the ‘Best Green Initiative’. This was after structural data of all 12,000 tenanted homes across CityWest Homes was pulled together to create a new database which accurately shows the financial and environmental savings possible from making improvements in over 1,200 different property types.
