We are thrilled to have won a prestigious International Green Apple Award for Environmental Best Practice. During the awards ceremony, which took place at the House of Commons on 11 November 2013, our benchmarking database competed with over 500 nominations to bring home the silver.
The awards are part of an international campaign to find Britain’s greenest companies. They are supported by the Environmental Agency, the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, the Chartered Institution for Wastes Management and other independent bodies.
Our benchmarking database, which is the first of its kind, was developed by sustainability manager Peter Armfield and stock analyst Antony Jones, CityWest Homes, with The Facility Consultants, experts in sustainability. It profiles the structural and technical data of 12,000 tenanted homes in Westminster. This will help CityWest Homes to accurately develop changes to reduce our carbon footprint and help our residents to save money on their fuel bills.
Peter Armfield, sustainability manager, CityWest Homes, was thrilled to be nominated for the award for the first time. He said: “It’s fantastic to be recognised on an international level for our work. This demonstrates that our innovative projects are proactively tackling environmental issues while getting results.
“The database provides us with a clear snapshot of the changes we can make to our properties which can benefit our residents. This will help us to cut fuel bills for our residents while reducing our carbon footprint in the future.”
As a result of the International Green Apple Awards success, CityWest Homes have also been invited to have our paper published in the Green Book. This is the leading international work of reference on environmental best practice and is shared with companies across the globe to encourage helping the environment.
