Lillington and Longmoore estate, Pimlico, has once again been recognised as one of the best parks in the country. For the sixth year in a row they have been awarded the prestigious Green Flag Award, a sign to visitors that the park has excellent facilities and is well-managed. CityWest Homes continues to be the only social housing provider in the UK to wave the Green Flag.
Lillington and Longmoore estate is one of a record number of 1,424 parks and green spaces who were awarded the Green Flag and Community Award this year. This is indication that the value of green spaces is widely acknowledged as being vital to communities.
Alison Weller, green spaces manager, CityWest Homes, said: “It’s a fantastic achievement to win this award for the sixth year in a row. It’s recognition that our green spaces continue to be amongst the best in the UK and I am proud of the work the Green Spaces team has put in over the years to achieve this. We will continue to work to meet the many criteria specified by the award, such as encouraging community participation and biodiversity.”
Paul Todd, scheme manager, Green Flag Award said: “We are thrilled to announce yet another record-breaking year for Green Flag Award parks and green spaces.
A Green Flag Award provides national recognition for the achievements of all those whose hard work and dedication has helped to create these fantastic places for all to enjoy.”
CityWest Homes managed estate Lisson Green also entered the awards this year. This was the first time they had entered, and though they weren’t successful this year they are already busy working on the 2013 award.
Nick Richards, head of CityWest Direct central area, said: "We've created many green spaces at Lisson Green over the last three years, which include wildlife gardens and allotments. We've been able to do this through additional works budgets, aerial funding and ward budgets.
I feel we are very close to achieving the award and we will definitely be applying in 2013. Congratulations to Lillington and Longmoore estate and we hope that Lisson Green estate will soon join them as the country's second social housing estate to attain the Green Flag."
