Schools: see energy in action

Have you ever wondered what happens inside the Pimlico District Heating Undertaking (PDHU)? In December, the year six class at St Barnabas’ CE Primary School was given a unique opportunity to visit the site and find out how the UK’s first zero carbon network supplies energy to over 3,250 properties in Pimlico.

The class visit was linked to a project the pupils were undertaking about electricity and the environment. Staff from PDHU explained how electricity and heat is made and then distributed to the Churchill Gardens estate area. They showed the children how computers monitor the temperatures and heat supply.

Mrs Matthews, a teacher at the school, said: “This was an amazing opportunity for the children to see a working energy plant. It made the children think about how scientific inventions affect everyday life and gave them some ideas about jobs they could do in the future.”
