Freedom of Information requests

The Freedom of Information Act came into full force on 1 January 2005. The Act provides a general right of access to recorded information held by public bodies such as CityWest Homes. You can request recorded information that we hold and unless one of the exemptions in the Act applies then the information will be released, if held. More information on the Act can be found at

CityWest Homes already makes a large amount of information available through a number of means. Before making a request under FOI, it is important to check that the information is not already available to you. If it is, we do not have to deal with your request under the Act. Please check the following before proceeding with your request:

Westminster City Council's website
CityWest Homes' Publication Scheme - see below

Who can make a request and how?

Anyone can make request for recorded information under the Act, regardless of age, nationality or location.

Your request must be made in writing and include:
Your name
Your address
A description of the information you wish to obtain
Any preferences of the format for receiving the information.

You can submit you request to:

Post: 21 Grosvenor Place London SW1X 7EA
Fax: 020 7245 2001
At any CityWest Homes estate office.

When we receive a request for information we must respond within 20 working days, of the day of receipt. We will consider your request and reply in writing. The reply will confirm or deny whether or not we hold the information and either provide the information or explain why it has not been provided.

What does it cost?

If the requested information costs more than £450, we are permitted to charge you for it. If we intend to charge a fee, we will tell you first and you will have three months in which to pay. Once we receive the fee, we will then respond to your request. If the cost of meeting your request exceeds the appropriate limit in the regulations, we are not obliged to meet your request. If you refuse to pay the fee, CityWest Homes can refuse to supply the information. CityWest Homes also reserves the right to charge for disbursements e.g. Photocopying and postage.

Full details on how these costs are calculated can be found in our Charging policy.

Requests refused

A request for information can only be refused if:

  • It is vexatious or repeated
  • We have asked you for more information in order to meet your request
  • It falls under one of the exemptions contained within the Act.
  • If your request is refused we will explain why and give you details of how to apply for an internal review.

Publication Scheme

Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, we have a duty to adopt and maintain a Publication Scheme which commits CityWest Homes to make information available to the public as part of its normal business activities.

Our Publication Scheme is based on the model publication scheme as prepared and approved by the Information Commissioner. See our Charging policy for details of any charges.
